9TH Grade Class during SSR

Look at the girls! Are you comfortable Agustina Mariotti?

Good boys!! You really look concentrated in your books.

Can you guess who's this girl? I think I know. What might she be reading?

Well done Felipe and Benjamín!! Are you enjoying your books?

Look at our Mrs Phelps!! In fact our librarian is much younger. Thank you for your help and kindness, Monica!!!

I think Santiago is reading Dr Jekill and Mr Hyde. What about Mateo? What are you reading?

I know you were only posing... Are you reading Shakespeare?

What a bunch of boys!!!!

Now we see the mysterious girl. I knew it was you, Candelaria!!! You look like good readers, girls!!!

A different group now. Are you trying to hide yourselves from the photographer? Or is it just a comfortable posture? Who knows?
Well, Class. As you see you look really well in all these pictures. I'm not only refering to your beauty. You really look well.! What I mean is your attitude. Isn't it good to have this moment of relax in the library and enjoy yourselves reading a good book? I hope you feel like this. This is what SSR is for : "Find the pleasure of reading"
You're invited to comment on the pictures or your impressions on the SSR classes so far!!!
It has to be somethig short. So don't be lazy. I'll be waiting for your comments!!!

Matilda's description of Mrs Phelps by Agustina Mariotti

Well, I know matilda because every afternoon her mother plays bingo and her father goes to work while she stays alone in her house. She doesn´t have anything to read at home because her father refueses to buy her any book so she sets out all by herself to walk to the public library, where I work .I´m very worried about her because of the time she spends alone walking on the street. And also because of the parents she has that don't take any care of her!

But on the other hand, I feel very surprised for the kind of books she likes because she doesn't want children books with a lot of pictures, she was searching for something else, with more information and less pictures in it.

In conclusion, I'm really fascinated with this girl. I think she isn't like the others kids, she is especial, very wise and brilliant.

Mr Wormwood's description of Matilda by Candelaria Paz

As you know I have a daughter called Matilda, she's around 5 or 6 or 7, I really don't know. The truth is that I really don't care. She is part, the least important, of my great family. She isn't as nice and intelligent as her father but I can't ask her to be perfect..She thinks she is smart, what an ilusion isn't it? But apart from that she thinks she is important because she reads books. The telly obviously, is better. But due to her pride she won't admit it.

She is a cheater too. Last night I was with Michael (what a kid!) watching how much I've earned that day, which was a lot, and she heard our conversation and tried to look wiser, in fact she is wise. But I think she looked at the paper with the results and gave me the figures as if she had made the calculations, what an insolence!

But she isn't as ruined as she looks. She is afraid to look like me, I'm not proud of it but she has some of my genes. I think she doesn't aprove of what happened to my hair, what an accident! I really wonder what happenend that morning. But after all she is my daughter and I have to accept her as she is bla bla bla.. But if she was as her father or at least as her brother she would be so different! For good of course...

Matilda's description of father by María Caram

Well my name is matilda. I'm a little girl. I don’t get on well with my father.

My father and I are very different. I think he is very dishonest. He cheats people in order to sell them old and useless second hand cars. I think that the money he earns is dirty money. I was very disappointed when I first heard what my father did to sell cars. I think it is not good to hate parents, but in some moments I hate them, so I decided to punish them with some inoffensive jokes. I wanted revenge. One day I put superglue into my father’s hat so then he couldn’t take it off.

In my family we do not eat in the table and talk as every family does. We eat in front of the telly eating from our knees. My father is very jealous because I love reading and he can’t enjoy books. He is ignorant. He doesn’t care about me. He forgot I had to start going to the school so I started when I was five and a half.

I could see that my father changed with my punishments so I am going to teach him how to behave with me. I’m his daughter not a little twit as he always says.

Very good piece of writing, congratulation !! Good Job!! Well Done!!!
